Interview w/ Twin Tigers; Album Release @ The Drunken Unicorn TONIGHT!

twin tigersTwin Tigers is an American rock band from Athens, Georgia formed in 2007 by Matthew Rain and Aimee Morris. The band just released their second full-length album, Death Wish, on April 9.

Spin Magazine claims, “Twin Tigers manages to sound simultaneously claustrophobic and expansive while sharply swerving guitar lines and cymbal swirls bleed color into an otherwise black-and-white landscape.”

Frontman Matthew Rain took the time to answer some of our questions before hitting the stage at the Drunken Unicorn tonight for Twin Tigers’ Atlanta album release. Read below to see what he had to say about the band’s name, their new album and their plans for 2013!

How did you and your band mates meet?

Aimee and I (Matthew) met at the Grit, a vegetarian restaurant in Athens, GA. Forrest was introduced to us by an old friend around the time we recorded our debut album, Gray Waves. We had a crazy cycle of drummers for awhile but we met Logan when he was playing drums for a band called Lake Inferior in Chapel Hill. We hit it off and he moved to Athens.

How did you come up with your band name, Twin Tigers?

Twin Tigers was named when the band was just Aimee and myself. I guess we were the tigers.

You recently released a new album, Death Wish . How does this album differ from Gray Waves & Curious Faces Violet Future?

Death Wish is a darker album than the first album. We made this album all on our lonesome. Everything on this album was recorded and produced by the band.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

For a while it was simply keeping the band together, these days everything seems pretty easy though.

If you could play a show with any musician / band, dead or alive, who would it be?

Bowie, 1978.

What artists / bands have you been listening to lately?

New Flaming Lips, new Knife and Soft Moon.

If you bought music today, what would you buy? A record, a CD or an MP3?

There should be no IF, we all buy LPs.

What are your plans for the remainder of 2013

We will be on tour most of this year, with a new EP coming later this year.
