Interview with Frank Bang; Played Last Night (3/28) @ Smith’s Olde Bar!

FrankBangStudio__0249fbWhether it be alone and acoustic or amped up and rocking with “The Secret Stash”, Frank Bang is devoted to the music of his youth. His heart is pure rock and roll, but his soul screams the blues. Like Mike Bloomfield and many more before him, it was the combination of raw talent, hard work and devotion that earned him respect, and a following, among blues loyalists. Blues guitar master Buddy Guy chose Frank to play blues guitar alongside him on his national and world tours. If you heard him play last night at Smith’s Olde Bar, then you understand why.

We caught up with Frank Bang after the show last night! He had a lot to say about his fans, his music and his all-time favorite gig! Check it out!

What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you?

“I get a lot of gifts. Everything from rugs to albums…somebody brought me cake for my birthday.”

What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist/band so far?

“The whole day can be funny when you’re out on the road. I think two or three times now I’ve accidentally called the opening act a different name. It wasn’t on purpose someone just told me the wrong name. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes everyday life that makes me laugh every day out on the road, though I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus.”

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

“I like to get away from everybody for a minute or two and collect my thoughts…. I always put seven picks in my pick holder, three one color and four another color. 34 Walter Payton.”

If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?

“Rock n Roll. I know it’s not one word but it does get the point across.”

How do you connect with a crowd?

“I am a music fan first, musician second. I think I can connect with people who come out to shows…that was me.”

What is your dream gig?

“I had my dream gig when I played in Buddy Guy’s band.”

What is the best way [for you] to write music?

“I find the best way for me to write music is to write about what I know… even exact conversations sometimes speak to the song.”
