Loudwire announced its top ten list of best metal videos produced in 2015 and Mastodon’s “Asleep in the Deep” topped the list.

“Mastodon are truly in a league of their own, not only creating music that beckons labeling them as their own genre, but crafting brilliant music videos like ‘Asleep in the Deep,'” Loudwire said. “The video was released this year, but the song comes off the band’s 2014 record, Once More ‘Round the Sun. In this video, a cat leaves home and stumbles upon a weird, blacklit world full of cute little demon creatures. After drinking from a saucer, the furry feline undergoes a psychedelic transformation and has all sorts of hallucinations. The pacing of the video complements the trance-like song, resulting in the Best Metal Video of 2015.”

The video itself has dazzled fans and filmmakers alike with its lysergically-laced, twisted imagery as only one might expect from the questionable minds of Atlanta-based Special FX Guru, Shane Morton, and renowned American artist Skinner, who created the cover art for Once More ‘Round the Sun, which debuted on Adult Swim some months back.

Once you’ve seen it you’ll want to know how this piece of award-worthy film making came to fruition.

Mastodon is excited to have a limited web store exclusive bundle to celebrate the video which includes the “Asleep in the Deep” T-shirt and 24″x 36″ movie-style poster printed on 100# text paper featuring the exclusive art by Skinner.
