Thanksgiving Eve Events

By: Shelby Lum

Thanksgiving usually marks the time when most families travel to relatives homes, get together with old friends, and driving for extended periods of time.  All of the above (along with the added stress of cooking for 15 plus people) can add a little, or a lot, of unneeded stress.  So to help combat that excess stress level, and to help give you an excuse to get out of the house and away from relatives for a bit, we have compiled a list of the best concerts happening in the city pre-Turkey day.

Wednesday, November 21-The Stuffing at Center Stage

Center Stage has split up several acts between The Vinyl, The Loft, and Center Stage Theatre.  Between those three venues there will be thirteen bands playing.  Most notably taking the stage will be Manchester Orchestra, Cage the Elephant, and Grouplove.  The Thanksgiving Eve festivities begin as early as 5 (at the Vinyl), and lasts until right before Thanksgiving Day itself.  Find which venue is playing your favorite lineups and grab tickets for The Stuffing!

Wednesday, November-21The Friends Fans & Family Tour featuring Waka Flocka Flame at The Tabernacle

Touring for his second studio album, Waka Flocka Flame will be entertaining Atlanta fans the night before Thanksgiving.  The rapper will most likely be performing the singles off of his newest album “Round of Applause”, “I Don’t Really Care”, and “Get Low” as well as others from his first album.  Get ready for your Thanksgiving with Waka Flocka Flame’s energetic performance.

Wednesday, November 21-Angie Aparo at Eddie’s Attic
Having started touring in the mid-90s, Angie Aparo is returning to his hometown of Atlanta for a performance during the holidays.  Although he hasn’t released a studio album since 2006, Aparo is sure to entertain fans at Eddie’s Attic with songs from his seven other albums, as well as including cover songs in his set.  Aparo released covers from Elton John to the Beastie Boys, showing of his wide range.  Pop on over to Eddie’s Attic to catch this singer in action.

Wednesday, November 21-Ocean Street at The Peachtree Tavern
Country music newcomers, Ocean Street, will be playing in Atlanta Wednesday.  The band’s songs have been featured on MLB network, The Real World, and also voted top 100 for radio play on college campuses by CMJ.  To start a southern holiday season, go check out Ocean Street at The Peachtree Tavern.

Wednesday, November 21-Yacht Rock Revue-Turkey Eve at Smiths Olde Bar
For something lighter, head over to Smiths Olde Bar for Yacht Rock Revue.  They are known for their light rock and performances of Hall & Oats, Michael McDonald, and Steely Dan.  Not only that, but these guys are part music band and part comedy show.  They have toured with huge names along music cruises, and the Yacht Rock Revue can name drop celebrities they have worked with all day long.

Wednesday, November 21-The Hotels at The EARL
Small rock band The Hotels will take the stage at the EARL next week in preparation for Thanksgiving.  Along with The Hotels, Twin Studies, and Warehouse will be playing. If you are looking for pre-holiday concerts check out this Weezer sounding band.
