What’s Up Thursday 10/9

Paper Route w/ Reuben Bidez & Tall Bear at Vinyl

Having toured relentlessly with the likes of Passion Pit and mewithoutyou, won hearts and minds with their debut album Absence (2009), paid musical tribute to Lou Reed to the man’s imperturbable face at South by Southwest, and insinuated themselves into pop culture consciousness when their song, “The Music,” appeared in the film (500) Days of Summer, Paper Route have now seen fit to go for broke on the possibility that epic earnestness, lyrical depth, and poetic heft can all coincide within one ridiculously catchy song collection primarily preoccupied with—wait for it–tragedy, disappointment, and loss.

Tickets are $12 advance, $14 at the door. Online and phones sales close at 6pm day of show. Doors open at 7pm.

Stu Larson at Eddie’s Attic

The call of the wild and the lure of the unknown led Stu to leave his job, his family and the familiarity of his small town in Queensland to follow a path of exploration and wandering — sharing his love of music with everyone he encountered along the way.Stu’s natural inspiration comes from an acute perception for the detail and beauty in everyday things and experiences and his need to keep moving on helps to maintain the freshness and sharpness of these observations that then manifest in his music and the continuous photographic account that comprises his enigmatic ‘instagram’ — a unique pictorial portrait of his eclectic journeys and experiences.

Flyleaf w/ Lullwater and Ryan White at The Loft

In 2012, platinum-selling rock band Flyleaf found itself at a pivotal crossroads for the first time in its career. After over a decade together, the original lineup of Sameer Bhattacharya [guitar], Jared Hartmann [guitar], Pat Seals [bass], and James Culpepper [drums] amicably parted ways with singer Lacey Sturm. Merging delicate rhythmic intricacies, kinetic guitars, and new singer Kristen May’s moving melodies, their newest EP signals a fresh start together.

Tickets cost $15. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 7pm.
