What’s Up Tuesday? January 14

Howe Gelb

There’s a wide range of music happening around Atlanta today, and whichever show you choose to attend, we’ve got you covered!

Eddie’s Attic and OK Productions Present: Howe Gelb @ Eddie’s Attic

Howe Gelb has traveled many a long and dusty mile to get to his place of prominence as an elder statesman of freewheeling Americana and “Erosion Rock”; A brand of music changing with the elements on a daily basis as nature intended, like giant sand, believing that continuous evolution should be a palpable element in music, as when when songs were first handed over again and again, before the frozen capture of a recording studio.

Doors open at 6:30pm. GA tickets are $14 in advance, $18 at the door. Table seats are $17.50 in advance, $21.50 at the door and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Online and phone sales close at 5:00 pm.

Royal Bangs w/ Bad Suns @ The Basement at Graveyard Tavern

Royal Bangs has always been a band going in two directions at once. Over the course of three full-lengths, the Knoxville, Tennessee band has kept pace with the indie rock vanguard, maturing through leftfield guitar pop and MIDI dancefloor theatrics to 2011’s freedom-prog fuzzfest Flux Outside. Call it a restless maturity: the songs take on the wisdom in boredom, misgivings and regret, but the sound is forever high hopes and thick skins.

Doors at 8:00pm. 18+. Tickets are $13. Advance ticket sales end at 4:00pm.

The McLovins @ Smith’s Olde Bar

McLovins specialize in the creation of dynamic and improvised sound, influenced by the members’ disparate and eclectic musical influences. These College students from Connecticut, embrace simultaneous and intricate improvisation with a more versatile front line in which all members are singing in four-part harmony, writing lyrics & music, as well as expounding on one another’s musical ideas. Set list segues and fiery improvisations are a staple of the band’s performances, keeping their audience always guessing what’s coming next and wanting more!

Doors open at 8:00pm. Tickets are $10 day of show. Online and phone sales end at 2:00pm.
