Family of the Year and The Mowgli’s @ The Earl
Family of the Year
Not surprisingly, many of Family of the Year’s songs feature numerous voices, and more than a few include a chorus of joyous handclaps. Some even sound like they should be sung by the tight-knit group around the campfire while the s’mores are melting and the wine is flowing, especially the ones that name-drop members of the band. Their newest album, Loma Vista, is a lively slice of indie, dance- and psych-rock. The album showcases catchy melodies, clever ruminations on love, heartbreak, and staying up late enough to watch the sun rise, and a cosmopolitan flavor enhanced by the fact that the members of Family of the Year hail from all over the globe.
The Mowgli’s
5 childhood friends from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, augmented by 3 mid-western transplants, The Mowgli’s are a quintessential California band. Inspired by the magnetism of San Francisco, the grind of Los Angeles and the serenity of the Big Sur Coast, their songs are a joyous revival of rock n’ roll, a twisting indie-folk dance and a heartfelt protest ballad.
Javelin @ 529
Javelin is the creative endeavor of George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk, cousins from New England. The two began making music in 2005 under the auspice of the Providence, RI art/noise scene. They wielded a mobile boombox soundsystem that used FM transmission to pump out pop-influenced sample collages, and their aesthetic aimed for surrealist block party in-a-box. They’ve since performed everywhere from house parties to NYC’s MoMA and even gotten themselves signed to Luaka Bop, David Byrne’s psychedelic world music label.
Turf War @ The Drunken Unicorn
Known for rowdy shows and catchy rock songs, Turf War started in 2008 as a bedroom solo project for lead singer John Robinson and quickly turned into a full band with Brian McGrath filling in on drums and backup vocals, Cecil Moss on Guitar, and Bradley Morris on bass. They created a sound reminiscent of early Replacements and brought on a full party attitude to their live sets. After playing the club circuit in Augusta for 3 years and gaining a wide audience they set their dreams higher and made the move to Atlanta, GA. It didn’t take long for people in Atlanta to start recognizing the bands energy and catchy songs.
ASO Principals @ Eddie’s Attic
The concert will feature lyrical favorites for flute and harp, as well as traditional and contemporary tangos by Piazzolla and Lynch. Musicians Christina Smith, flute, and Elisabeth Remy Johnson, harp, are pleased to present an evening of chamber music.
Jack Daniel’s Honey Concert Series @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Psychostick @ The Masquerade
A breath of fresh air has come for those who need a break from the standard angry rock or metal band. Psychostick has found a way to break the mold from a genre that often takes itself way too seriously. Combining well-written heavy riffs and grooves with tongue-in-cheek slapstick-comedy song themes, Psychostick has created a style that will either have crowds mosh-pitting one second, or doubled over laughing in another.
