What’s Up Wednesday 10/29

Happy Wednesday, Atlanta! Before all the Halloween parties pick up, check out one of tonight’s great show!

Zara Sky with special guest, Jonah Swilley at Eddie’s Attic

Zara Sky possesses the best qualities of a wholesome and genuine artist. At first look, Zara impresses with her unique beauty, a blend of her Spanish and Puerto Rican roots, and the poise and elegance she exudes. But her beauty is not just external. Zara Sky has a romantic soul and a celebratory spirit for life, beauty, and music that touches those around her and which flows through her voice in sincere and deep insights that reveal a beautiful heart. Her music and lyrics are a reflection of someone who has grown stronger through love and heartbreak which, despite the latter, has not tarnished her willingness to love.

General admission tickets are $10 in advance, $14 at the door. Table seats are $12.50 each and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 5pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 6:30pm.

OBN III’s w/ Dinos Boys & Skin Jobs at The EARL

OBN III’s third LP – the appropriately titled “Third Time to Harm” – follows the bands’ justly lauded LPs, “The One and Only” (2011), and self-titled follow-up (2012). This latest and greatest slab of guitar-driven magma from Austin’s great sons captures best the brute energy of their unique calling card; their live show (an experience that oscillates between epic and epileptic) by coupling it with heavy recordings. Third Time to Harm nets that exact rare bird that eludes so many; a truly charismatic front man fronting a real rock band that’s not faking a single thing and has talent. And situated amongst a modern class of garage rock superheroes cropping up everywhere, what’s so refreshing is that the OBN III’s’ unforced style and swagger not only shines through, but naturally punches through, song by song, show by show, laying the tracks for its own freight train.

Tickets are $8. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 9pm.

Motopony w/ The Family Crestat Drunken Unicorn

Throughout history, individuals have been playing with the delicate balance between polarities. Often, the combination of two opposites makes for a harmony previously unknown, a sum greater than its parts. Motopony is the embodiment of this notion – a band built on a bedrock of contrasts and the gorgeous alchemy of seemingly conflicted sounds, and the feelings mapped over them. Guided by soulful machines Daniel Blue and Buddy Ross along with guitarist Brantley Cady and drummer Forrest Mauvais, there is a warm efficiency to the hard-soul/glitch-folk contained on the quartet’s self-titled debut.
Tickets are $10. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 4pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 9pm.

Wampire w/ TOPS at 529

Following the release of their debut album Curiosity in 2013, Wampire went from a duo most accustomed to playing house parties around their hometown of Portland to a five-piece band performing in venues all over the world with groups such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Foxygen, and Smith Westerns. That 12-month span saw Wampire play more shows in more cities, countries, and continents than in all their previous years together combined — a nearly non-stop barrage of new and memorable experiences that, above all else, forced the band members to become more fully immersed in music than at any other time in their lives.

Tickets are $10. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 9pm.
