What’s Up Wednesday? July 17th

alice smithIt certainly is a wonderful Wednesday! Not only is the weather outstanding, but the lineup tonight is killer! Check it out.

Alice Smith @ Vinyl

At first glance, the title may be simple, but Alice Smith’s new album She is anything but. An intoxicating mixture of rock, pop and R&B, the album reveals a singer/songwriter/producer who has an unshakable sense of self and the attitude to match. Known for a 4-octave vocal range, Alice has the kind of live performance that can coax goosebumps and tears from even the most jaded listener. She has honed her stage presence since cutting her teeth in NYC’s Afro-Punk Scene alongside artists like Tamar Kali and Imani Coppola.

Caustic Casanova with Duende @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Caustic Casanova is a hard rock power trio operating out of America’s proud capital city (of rock!), Washington, DC. The CC, as they are affectionately known by their fans, has been tearing up stages and studios alike with their unique brand of diverse, heavy music since their inception on the campus of The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2005. They have been described as “Riff Emperors” (The Pinhook, Durham, NC) who possess “…an air of optimism and freshness…that’s been lacking from the music scene for well over a decade now (Voltcase).”

The Appleseed Cast with The Life & Times @ The Drunken Unicorn

“A blend of two dubiously-termed styles—post-rock, emo—has been the bread and butter of Kansas-hailing brainiacs The Appleseed Cast since the late ‘90s. If you’ve never heard them, you might be surprised to hear how broadly that blend can be pushed. With each release, they redefine. Remaining true to form, Illumination Ritual all but abandons the droning structures and sweeping arrangements of 2009′s Sagarmartha for what hits like a return to the lively, visceral Mare Vitalis with the free-flowing creativity of the Low Level Owl discs in mind.”- The Aqaurian
