Win Tickets & 5GB With Gentleman Jesse And His Men; Playing 529, Saturday, May 26th

Gentleman Jesse & His Men, are an Atlanta combo that revels in the bright, energetic power pop sounds of the early New Wave era. Much like the late and great Exploding Hearts, they inject lo-fi garage with a direct shot of rock’n’roll ecstasy. In other words, it’s a good time. Always the clever one, Jesse joined us for our 5GB series before their show on Saturday at 529.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

The Ramones and Frank Black. It was the day that they announced that Kurt Cobain was dead. My girlfriend called me and said “did you hear?” and I said “who cares I’m going to see the Ramones!”

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

We have been pretty lucky to have played lots of good shows with lots of good bands. Performance wise I have no idea. Anytime I hear a live set from us all I can think is my voice sucks.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

I’ve been to a lot of shows and have no interest in rating them. Some memorable bands that I have seen? Off the top of my head: Dead Moon, OBN III’s, Mission of Burma, GBH, Cola Freaks, Milk n Cookies, Oblivians, Paul Collins, Roky Erickson, Mika Miko, I could go on for hours.

Gig you would most like to play?

I’d like to play with Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Wouldn’t you, Eileen? What do you call a girl with one leg?

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Stop saying the word gig!
