Tuesday, October 1st, British band Haven will be performing at the Echo Lounge in Atlanta. The press on this band has been phenomenal. Their CD is 'Between The Senses' produced by Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Local band The Hiss open, along with The Division Of Laura Lee.

On Thursday, October 3rd, Smith's Olde Bar will host a benefit concert for Randee DeMartino. A 28 year old resident of Atlanta and a former music publicist, Randee has spent all of this year battling cancer and has been unable to work. This is Randee's second bout with the disease, which she first defeated 6 years ago. Eight local bands are currently scheduled to perform - The Yard, Hundred Dollar Day, The Enigmatic, Sanctified, Ian Webber, Big Atomic, Bachelor Red and Empty Handed. - Show up and do the right thing.

Opportunity Rocks: "The Search For The Next Great Band" competition, sponsored by Nokia and T-Mobile, is accepting entries. The winning unsigned band will perform LIVE with the Goo Goo Dolls and Hoobastank at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on November 16, 2002. In addition, the Grand Prize winner will receive $15,000 year and other cool prizes from Nokia and T-Mobile. 30 Local Finalists will face off at playoff shows in Washington DC, Philadalphia, Boston, Atlanta, Nashville, Dallas, Austin, Minneapolis, Phoneix, and Seattle. 10 National Finalists will take home cash, prizes, and local bragging rights. Flyer Beware! The Virginia Highlands Neighborhood Assoc. and the Atlanta Police are cracking down on flyers posted on telephone poles around Virgina Highlands area. A couple of bands have been threatended that their shows at the 10 High (which the flyers were promoting) would be pulled and they would not be allowed to perform if the flyers were not taken down. United are the latest band to receive such a threat, and we wait to see if their show Sept 12 at the 10 High goes ahead.

Former Tender Idols frontman Ian Webber is releasing a solo CD 'Blanketcoveredmorning'. The cd release party will be August 3rd at Smiths Old Bar.

The Veins are looking at a deal with Rough Trade Records to put our their first EP. The band features David Cobb (ex-Tender Idols), Nick Parsons (ex-Sixty Cycle Hum), Darren Dodd (ex-Billionaire) and Greg Lee (ex-Peter Searcy).

the buzz on local band the hiss has spread across the Atlantic - in just the past week, both Rough Trade Records and famed English music mag, The NME have contacted the band asking for copies of their 3 song demo - the band has recently showcased for several labels and will be debuting more new songs at their next show June 22 at the Echolounge.
