Last year’s Tunes from the Tombs marked the first time in the festival’s history that all performers hailed from Georgia. The all-local lineup continues in 2016, with over a dozen bands accompanying two-time Grammy winning headliner Arrested Development for a day of music and spirits benefitting historic Oakland Cemetery.
Leading up to the headlining performance, HeaveN Beatbox, James Hall, Adron, Rod Hamdallah, and Atlanta Funk Society take the MailChimp main stage, hosted by 97.1 The River’s Steve Craig. The stage at North Public Grounds, emceed by 97.1 The River’s English Nick, features a lineup of tribute bands, including: The Return (The Beatles); The Dirty Doors (The Doors); The B-53’s (The B-52’s); Fauxgerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival); and The Clermonts, who perform covers of various classic rock and party rock hits from the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Additionally, Atlanta Taiko Project, Sarah Wilson, and Zardine Glaze perform at various locations throughout the cemetery.
“With this year’s lineup, Tunes from the Tombs will be an unforgettable way to celebrate Father’s Day, local music, and a unique slice of Atlanta history all at once,” said Mary Woodlan, director of special events at Historic Oakland Foundation.
A new addition to Tunes from the Tombs is Red Brick Brewing’s Beer Garden at Lion Square, where attendees can enjoy a few rounds of cornhole under the ancient magnolias while cooling off with a Red Brick brew. The festival also includes local fare from some of Atlanta’s favorite food trucks, including: Angelfire7 BBQ, Atlanta Burger Truck, Brain Freezz, El Dorado, The Fry Guy, King of Pops, Just Loaf’N Po’Boys, Rusty’s Nutz of Atlanta, Six Feet Under Pub & Fish House, Sweet Tea Factory, Urban Taali, and Yumbii.
