What’s Up Thursday 7/24

von Grey

You made it! You made it all the way to Thursday and you still (probably) have your sanity! Treat yourself and some friends by enjoying some sweet tunes at one of these exciting shows!

Von Grey with special guest, Edward Hartline @ Eddie’s Attic

Atlanta-based indie-alt-folk group von Grey has checked off more things on the proverbial band wish list in the past year than many bands do in a decade. The band is clearly doing something, well, let’s make that a lot of things right. In the past year, “Conan”‘s website has dubbed the group “Mumford & Daughters” (in fact, von Grey’s last single, 2012’s deliciously harmonious “Coming for You,” was most added at Triple A radio behind Mumford & Sons). Paste magazine admired their “charming harmonies and extensive instrumentation.” And Atlanta Journal Constitution exclaimed they’re “nothing short of stunning,” while Billboard praised their “crystalline harmonies, stirring lyrics and inventive melodies.”

Check out our interview with von Grey here.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $16 at the door. Table seats are $15 and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Online and phone sales close at 5pm.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Funk, Rock, Electric ENERGY: These four Pigeons bring it every night. Based out of Baltimore, MD, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has an undeniably unique and versatile live sound that ascends peaks of musical ecstasy. Their evolving arrangement of original compositions, psychedelic improvisational jams, and contagious smiles have ‘The Flock’– their self-identifying fanbase that stretches from coast-to-coast– coming back for more. One of the fastest growing emerging artists in the jam and festival scene these days, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is here to bring the party with their danceable electro-funk grooves and infectious ability to bring positive energy to any environment.

Tickets are $10. Doors open at 7pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 2pm.

Silver Snakes w/ Powder Room @ The EARL

Moving away from the buoyant post-hardcore of their 2011 debut, LA’s Silver Snakes’ second full-length instead offers up the sort of murky, grunge-sodden melodies that will slide snugly into your ’90s alt-rock collection. But while it could have sounded all too familiar, they’ve struck gold with ‘Year Of The Snake’; an exquisitely dark and organic direction in which they skilfully balance their heavy and aggressive performance with haunting and heart-rending, folk-tinged songwriting. It’s an impressive and diverse 44-minutes highlighted more so by vocalist / guitarist Alex Estrada’s pained punk delivery at every bend.

Tickets are $10. Doors open at 8:30pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.
