Big Freedia is an accomplished “Bounce” Rapper who lives in New Orleans and performs six or more times a week in various venues throughout the city. Bounce is an original urban music rising up from the intimate and fun-loving nature of the housing projects which dominate the city’s street culture. “Sissy Bounce” is the informal
name for a derivative of Bounce that has risen to prominence in recent… years and features explicitly gay and cross-dressing musicians and themes. Big Freedia sees her performance as a Bounce artist as an extension of this work, often interacting in a call and response/teacher and student, fashion with her audiences. Melt Banana with Retox @ 529

After their last album “Bambi’s Dilemma” which shows us pop and punk tunes with Melt Banana style, they released a live album under name of Melt Banana Lite full of noise. New album “fetch” will be their 7th album as studio recording album. They started making this new album from January 2011, and the demos were almost finished in March 2011. And that big earthquake struck. They said, “After the earthquake something has been changed and we could not concentrate on the recording and it stopped on the way…” After a while, they started to face to music again.

BRAIDS with Hundred Waters @ The Drunken Unicorn

BRAIDS, the Canadian experimental pop group who released Native Speaker in 2011, have reinvented themselves in the making of their second full length, “Flourish // Perish”. After 18 months of touring in support of their debut, along with the departure of a band member, the group secluded themselves in their Montreal studio for a year of writing and recording. While Native Speaker was written in an organic and live environment, the group sought to explore a more introspective and electronic approach to songwriting. Sonically, the songs from these sessions are delicate and tight, yet thoughtfully open up to the rich lushness reminiscent of their older material. Lyrically they are honest and vulnerable, demonstrating the group’s emotional growth and maturity since their last record.
Doors open at 9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Online and phone sales end at 4pm.

Dan Bern @ Smith’s Olde Bar

Dan Bern is best known for his prolific songwriting and electric live persona. He has released eighteen albums and built a loyal following based on prodigious touring and output of songs in all forms. In 2012, Bern released two new studio recordings showcasing the American roots music that has made Bern one of the most compelling singer/songwriters of his generation: “Drifter,” a vagabond’s journey through Bern’s musical universe featuring a duet with Emmylou Harris, and “Doubleheader,” an 18-song tribute to baseball culled from close to 30 years of songwriting and recorded at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios in Marin County. Both CDs feature longtime collaborators Common Rotation with whom Bern has also released two live recordings. Since 2007, Bern has also focused his talent and sharp wit on writing songs for movies and other projects. He composed over a dozen songs for the Jake Kasdan/Judd Apatow spoof-biopic “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” and composed songs included in Apatow’s “Get Him to the Greek,” starring Russell Brand. Bern’s song “One Dance” was also included in Kasdan’s first film “Zero Effect” starring Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, and Ryan O’Neal.

Dir En Grey @ Center Stage

In August 2011, DIR EN GREY released their 8th studio album, DUM SPIRO SPERO, which garnered overwhelming support worldwide as their strongest and maddest record yet. In our time when heavy rock music has become diversified, the band’s deep and extensively unique perspective is once again borderless and uncategorized. “It’s extreme in a way that corpse-painted clowns will never understand–but as an expression of raw, wounded humanity, it stands as DIR EN GREY’s most captivating, compelling and soulful release to date. After a long period of silence, DIR EN GREY announced their new single and tour in Japan and Europe, and DIR EN GREY will finally be back in the U.S. and Canada this November 2013 for a headlining tour for the first time in two years.

In This Moment @ Masquerade (Heaven)

Also Appearing: Motionless In White, Kyng, and All Hail The Yeti
For vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth, the duo at the heart of In This Moment, change came unexpectedly when they found themselves rebuilding the walls around their foundation. Stripped down to their essence, the core of In This Moment is on fire with their fourth album, aptly titled Blood. With the release of Blood, In This Moment is geared for the next level — as musicians, songwriters and performers. “I want the band to become widespread,” says Brink, “and that doesn’t mean selling out. If you change who you are to become part of another world, then your art is cut short and you jeopardize what you believe in. We’re not doing that. Our music is for us first, we write it for us, we’re doing our own special thing that you can only identify with us. We can do that and still be connected, still love the underground world, and tap into new crowds and people who can understand the music. We love what we’re doing and are ready to have more people know about us.”
