Interview: Hunx and His Punx- Playing @ The Drunken Unicorn August 16th!

hunxHUNX AND HIS PUNX have returned with Street Punk—a new album filled with the catchiest and most hateful punk songs heard in eons. Street Punk is an unrelenting tour de force, echoing early 80s hardcore, 90s grrl sounds, Darby Crash on helium, and the female answer to The Misfits.

After members dropping like flies and moving around the country, Hunx and His Punx is now led by Seth Bogart and Shannon Shaw, who split songwriting and vocal duties. Recorded in just a couple days by Facundo Bermudez (who has produced albums by Mika Miko and No Age), Street Punk includes a cover of the Beastie Boys’ early hardcore anthem “Egg Raid on Mojo” and songs about bad skin, teen angst, social wimpery, trash, isolation, schizophrenia, peroxided delusion, rat parties and vengeance.

We caught up with Hunx himself- Mr. Seth Bogart! Check out what he had to say about the new album, social media and the band’s favorite memory together!

Tell us about Street Punk. What was the recording process like for this album?

Shannon and I recorded seven of the songs in one day as “demos” but they sounded PAF (PUNK AS FUKK) so we just recorded five more.

We’re big fans of Shannon and the Clams! Shannon plays a vital part in Hunx and His Punx. How did you two meet?

We met at a Hunx show in San Francisco at the gay bar The Eagle.

You’re really involved on Twitter. In what ways do social media outlets help you all as a band?

I’m less into Twit lately but keep all them around to bombard people with self promotion.

For those who haven’t been to a live show yet, what can they expect from a live performance by Hunx and His Punx?

Drunk teenagers moshing.

By the way, the band name is awesome! Where did it come from?

My nickname HUNX.

Share with us one of the funniest moments you’ve had as a band!

We all Frenched in Germany.

Anything in the works for Hunx and His Punx? New music? New projects? Please share!
