Pedro The Lion: In August 2016, during what he now recognizes as his lowest point, Bazan was touring the country alone in an aging minivan and found himself in his hometown of Phoenix, AZ. In need of a break from the road, he spent a night off at his grandparents’ house instead of driving on to San Diego. Before leaving town the next morning, after realizing that even the most familiar places can become unrecognizable, Bazan gave himself the gift of a quick detour past the house he grew up in, and on the way, experienced a breakthrough – one that would lead him both forward and back to another home he had built many years before. The result is a twisting, darkly hopeful introspection into home and what it means to go back, if you ever can. It is rock and roll wrapped in tissue paper, its hard edges made barely soft. Every melody is careful, a delicate upswing buoyed by guitar lines that hold each tender feeling together like string before ripping them apart to see what’s inside. It is an ode to the place he still loves despite how alien it can appear to him now. It is the story of a life from the beginning, but not a linear one. This life is a circle, and Phoenix goes back to that first point, to show that when we are looking for home we’ll eventually run into it again, whether it’s in the desert, in a rehearsal space, or on a stage.

It is no mistake that mewithoutYou have become one of today’s most fascinating experimental rock acts. The last 15 years have borne witness to the Philadelphia five-piece exercising stylistic evolutions and aerial dynamics with humbling dexterity and untamed ambition. At their roots may be a theatrical progressive punk/post-hardcore band, but they’ve never been content to remain comfortably within a familiar genre. Their continuous multi-directional movements have left them increasingly difficult to classify, the growth of their branches impossible to predict. The group’s sixth full-length album, Pale Horses, is the best evidence to date of their eclectic agility.

Allgood, originally called Allgood Music Company, was originally based out of Athens, GA from 1988 – 1995. Through constant touring, the band grew a following throughout the US. Endless gigging, constantly changing set lists and long improvisational jams gave the band their chops. Eight years of touring, four records and thousands of passionate fans later the band decided to call it quits in 1995. The band reformed briefly in 2006, with three members of the original lineup, and played two sold out shows in Columbus and Athens GA. In July of 2010 Allgood headlined the BRAGG Jam Festival in Macon GA, playing to a capacity crowd at the magnificent Capitol Theater. Allgood is currently booking dates, writing songs and plans to release more music for download and purchase.

Greco w/ Sound Culture & Your Captain Speaking at Vinyl

Saturday, August 24th

Event Link

Greco‘s musical hope is summed up in four words: Sing. Dance. Sweat. Sex. Do these things while listening to the music and it will make for such a better experience for everyone. Their hooks, rock & roll lyrics, and on stage antics will make you understand why your mama warned you about boys like these. Greco connects to the audience through common experiences, sung out over blistering riffs, while giving the crowd a chance to jump in a wild and morally ambiguous party. Their latest stage show reflects their breaking out of the stereotypical pop rock genre, and touching the dirty bits of life that happens to everyone and relating to how we all can keep pushing on.
