ATL Insider: Plan A Night At The Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre

One of the oldest and most beautiful venues in Atlanta, The Fox Theatre is one of our favorite places to see a show (or a movie, or play, or anything really). With its starry sky ceiling and beautifully ornamented walls, it’s a magical place that also happens to have fantastic acoustics.

Whether you’re getting ready to see an amazing concert or a hilarious play, we’re here to help you plan the ultimate night out at The Fox Theatre.

Inside The Venue (Tips & Tricks)

  • Dress Code, Dress Shmode
    • Contrary to popular belief, there is actually no specific dress code for events at The Fox.
    • Some events, like an opening night for a play or musical, will draw a dressier crowd as most people do enjoy dressing up to go to the theatre.
    • You’ll see everything from casual for a concert or a movie to Sunday best of formal wear for theatrical performances.
  • Get Nuts
    • Y’all. Trust me when we say that the sugared nuts they sell at concessions are truly life-changing. You can choose from almonds, cashews, and pecans, but we give extra props to the pecans.
    • There are other great concessions available within The Fox including a full service bar that offers cocktails, imported and domestic draft beer, wine, soft drinks, bottled water, popcorn, chips, pretzels, candy, and hot dogs in addition to the nuts (but get the nuts).
    • Be warned: concession lines can get fairly long, especially during concerts.
  • Arrive Early
    • Due to The Fox being a reserved seating venue, it’s always a good idea to arrive before the show begins to ensure you’ll get to your seat without any delay during the performance.
    • This is especially true of musicals and plays, as you may be held out or reseated until an appropriate time for you to get to your assigned seat.
    • Concerts are a little more laid back, of course, but why would you want to miss any of the show?!

Parking & Transportation

  • Parking Lots
    • All of the surrounding parking lots are privately owned, aka not owned by The Fox. Prices for the surrounding lots will fluctuate on days of events, but you can get guaranteed pricing for parking by buying advance online with your event tickets. Options are (view the map):
      • Georgian Terrace Lot is across the street from The Fox and is$25 for Self-Parking and $30 for Valet.
      • Yellow Lot is directly to the right of The Fox and has available ADA parking for $12, and $17 parking for non-ADA. Since this one is directly next to The Fox and is on Peachtree Street, it’s a bit hard to get in and out of, but is obviously very conveniently located next to The Fox.
      • Green Lot is $12 and a block behind The Fox down Ponce De Leon. It is an open parking lot, and very easy to get in and out of.
      • Red Lot is $12 and is a parking deck located a block down Peachtree in between 3rd and 4th Streets.
  • Uber/Lyft
    • Taking a taxi or using an inexpensive driving service such as Uber or Lyft is always a great option, especially if you plan on having a few drinks and don’t want to deal with the hassle of parking in Midtown.
  • Marta Is Smarta
    • Take Marta to the North Avenue Station (N3 on the north line) and walk 2 blocks east to the theatre.

Restaurants

Since The Fox is conveniently located in Midtown, there is no shortage of amazing restaurants in the area. Here are just a few of our favorites:

  • Quick Bites
    • Cypress Street Pint and Plate – Located on the corner of Cypress St. and 6th, this relaxed but refined tavern features some of the best American grub in town and one of the most pleasantly intimidating burgers around – Sublime Doughnut Burger, anyone? Add in the huge outdoor patio, and you’ll truly be experiencing the sublime.
    • Escorpion – Arguably one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, this is the perfect place to grab a margarita and some tacos before a show.
    • Vortex Bar & Grill – An Atlanta staple, The Vortex is a classic must-visit restaurant full of personality and some of the very best burgers in the city. Opt for the tots for the ultimate experience.
  • Finer Dining
    • Ecco – If you’re looking to impress a date or simply have a fabulous dining experience, Ecco is the place to go. Killer wine list, wood-fired pizzas, and impressive meat and cheese menus will get your tastebuds ready for a great show.
    • Alma Cocina – For a finer authentic Mexican cuisine, there is no better place than Alma Cocina. Get ready for some creative tacos like Fried Avocado and Green Chorizo.
    • Livingston Restaurant & Bar – Located directly across the street at the Georgian Terrace, Livingston offers fresh and innovative American cuisine with beautifully sleek and modern decor. They also happen to be a supporting sponsor of the Fox!
