Gotta Get Down On Friday: Best New Releases of the Week

Get down this Friday with the best new releases we collected for you from this past week!

Modest Mouse – “Lampshades On Fire”

Being that the last new Modest Mouse album was released in 2007, the release of the first single off their new LP (Strangers To Ourselves) dropping 8 years later is quite an exciting one. “Lampshades On Fire” breathes quintessential Modest Mouse, and that’s just the way we like it.

Skrillex w/ Diplo, CL, & G-Dragon – “Dirty Vibe” via Redbull

Featuring Korean pop stars G-Dragon and CL alongside Diplo, the video never actually shows Diplo or Skrillex, but it is as visually explosive as it sounds. “Dirty Vibe” is a track off of Skrillex’s most recent album, Recess.

Kendrick Lamar – “Untitled” Debut on Colbert Report

As Colbert Report rounds out its final season, the show recruited Kendrick Lamar to be its last musical guest ever. Colbert joked to Lamar, “You are the last Colbert Report musical guest. Honored to have you on, but keep in mind – Paul McCartney, R.E.M., Jack White and Nas were your opening acts.” Lamar did not disappoint as he debuted a brand new track, so new it doesn’t even have a title yet.

Pond (Tame Impala side project) – “Sitting Up On Our Crane”

Tame Impala offshoot Pond are set to release their sophomore effort, Man It Feels Like Space Again, next month and recently shared the video for new track “Sitting Up On Our Crane.” The video features a 3D figure falling off a crane and then being sent forth into a psychedelic universe.

St. Vincent – “Birth In Reverse”

“Birth In Reverse,” directed by Willo Perron, was originally released as a free download in December of 2013 along with the announcement of her fourth studio album St. Vincent. The LP was recently named number four on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2014, as well as nominated for a Grammy in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

Band Of Horses & Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) – “Hang An Ornament”

Band Of Horses announced on SoundCloud yesterday that Jason Lytle of Grandaddy will be producing their next album, and posted this collaborative Christmas song they recorded with Lytle along with it.

TV On The Radio – “Lazzeray”

“Lazzeray” is off of TV On The Radio’s latest album Seeds, all of which is worth giving a few listens to. The video features the band performing live at a skate park, a perfect backdrop for this indie-punk jam.
