Merge Turns 20, Offers Fans Chance to Make Their Own Compilations

MergeScore

Merge has always been so cool. Now that they've been around for 20 years, their status as super-awesome indie label has been solidified. And to celebrate this birthday, the label is offering up lots of goodies. First up was a subscription service for the whole year, which has actually closed now (last chance to sign up was in mid-January) and is so amazing that we're just got going to tell you what it offered up, but you can click here to learn more and cry about what you're missing out on.

Luckily fan still have the chance to purchase some of these special edition items, such as a covers album with bands like Apples in Stereo and Les Savy Fav covering their favorite Merge songs (to be released in April) and a remix album with Merge songs reimagined by folks like Junior Boys and Battles (available in the fall).

But the true gem that is available for everyone right now is the chance to curate your own greatest Merge hits compilation CD. Artists from Peter Buck to Amy Poehler have already put together their own SCORE! Compilations, available to the subscribers. But you can pick your own collection of 20 favorite Merge songs on the label's message board. The winner will have his compilation for sale in the Merge digital store and will also have a choice of a Merge T-shirt or tote bag. As well as massive bragging rights over all your nerdy, indie friends. Which we all want.

Let us know what songs you think should be on the compilation here in the comments.
