Mish Way of White Lung 5GB Interview – Playing 529 on April 10

White LungBy Ellen Eldridge

Vancouver’s furiously melodic punk band White Lung plays Atlanta’s 529 bar on Wednesday April 10. This was one of the most talked about bands at SXSW this year, and last year White Lung released its album Sorry, which received critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Spin, Bitch and Rolling Stone, who placed them on the Top 10 List of 2012.

Vocalist Mish Way took the time to answer our questions:

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

It was Charlotte Diamond when I was 3 years old, and I went up on stage and played tambourine with her. I was obviously an attention whore even as a child.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

It’s hard for me to remember some of our best shows because I am not clear headed. Isn’t that the point? It’s all adrenaline and stuff and I’m not thinking or really paying attention to much around me. Two years ago we played with Milk Music in Florida and Arlington Garett (guitarist of the best punk band to ever exist St. Dad) threw me into a bass amp during our set. Then, we all went swimming after the show. Yelled a bunch.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

I’ve seen so many shows. I can’t tell you what was best. However, I’ll tell you the funniest thing I ever saw at a show though. I’ll never forget this: I went to see my friends Black Wizard play and they were playing with this ridiculous band called Cocaine Mustache. The men in Cocaine Mustache were walking onto the stage and feeding Black Wizard key bumps during their set. They were all wearing white and cowboy hats and just totally dumb Kidd Rock stuff. Anyways, during the show there was this kid in the crowd with a giant neck brace. One of those wired domes that keeps your neck and head from turning after you have really injured your spine. During the set, some moshing kid lost his shoe and it went flying and jammed into the kid’s neck brace. The kid just left the shoe in there and kept dancing.

Gig you would most like to play?

I like playing outside festivals during the day because it’s appropriate to wear sunglasses.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

It would involve most people who are already dead.

Make sure to check out White Lung playing at 529 THIS Wednesday, April 10th! Grab your tickets below!
