We Celebrate Beatles Day: Win a Beatles Lithograph!

September 9, 2009 Arts, Giveaways, News No Comments

BeatlesLithograph We're exited about Beatles Day (today, September 9, 2009. Yup, 9/9/09). Their Rock Band is coming out, the extra-special, super-awesome remasters are coming out (see below), and it's all a great excuse for actual "music" networks (ahem, VH1) to play something music-related (the amazing "Anthology" documentary is a must), and for folks to throw Beatles-related events (like our Beatles Rock Band tent at Atlanta Arts Festival oh September 12-13 and Criminal Records' Beatles Day extravaganza). And for giveaways.

Still with me? All those parentheses didn't make your head bleed? Good. Cos I'll make it worth your while. We're giving away a gorgeous Beatles lithograph (of the iconic image above) to one lucky winner. Simply email us at win@ticketalternative.com with the word "Beatles" in the subject – and do it quickly, because we'll be drawing a winner before the day is out!

ATOMIC ART IN ATL

By Stephanie Roman

UK's underground Blitz Club and Batcave artist, clothing designer, and all-around live sketch badass, Jason Atomic will have one of his sketchbooks on display here in Atlanta.

Rumour has it that Mr. Atomic and his partner in art-crime Mr. Deluxe
may visit Atlanta this August to exhibit artwork and possibly perform
with their live band, Fist Fuck Deluxe. While they are usually found
poncing about London, Tokyo, and recently Vienna, a trip to the Dirty
South has piqued their interest.

The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is hosting the 2009 Sketchbook project tour,
and the exhibit will be ready for viewing starting today April 2 from
4.30 p.m – 8.00 p.m. Otherwise the galleries are open Tuesday-Saturday,
11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

See more of Mr. Atomic's work on his website here and on YouTube here.

The Vagina Monologues Come to 7 Stage Stages

February 3, 2009 Theater No Comments

VdayVaginaMonologues

Atlanta's own 7 Stages Theatre in Little Five Points is joining in with the annual tradition of The Vagina Monologues for the second time this February. V-Day is a world-wide event started by the writer of The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler, which is dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

"Every year it is released from royalties and groups are allowed to produce and perform it all over the U.S. and the world," explains Rod Lindsey, who is organizing the event at 7 Stages for the second time this year. "All proceeds are to go to a local charity involved in the issue and the national charity which is chosen each year by the national organization."

The local charity this year is the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the nationally the proceeds go towards the women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

7 Stages are also performing a companion show, A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer. Explains Lindsey, "This show is another series of monologues dealing with much the same subject matter, with the main difference being the involvement of male actors."

The theater is going further in their attempts to raise money for the good causes, with a silent auction and a raffle being held before the shows, as well as representatives from the aforementioned charities attending the events to converse with audience members.

You can get tickets to the shows – including combo tickets for the Monologues and the companion show – here.

ATLart[09] Showcases Atlanta’s Galleries in Style

ATLartARThouse

By Alexandra Edwards

Atlanta isn't usually known around the country for its art galleries.  Theater and fine dining we've got covered, but art tends to get left out of the talk about us in other towns.  But ATLart[09], this year's citywide annual event presented by the Atlanta Gallery Association, is working to change that.

The centerpiece of the three-week celebration is ARThouse[09], a museum-style exhibition showcasing many of Atlanta's art galleries.  The house where it's being held is a work of art itself: 541 West Paces Ferry, otherwise known as the Pink Palace, an Italian Baroque-style home not far from the Governor's mansion, is 16,000 square feet of luxury.  From the 18th century English tapestry to the exposed brick work and original incinerator fixtures of the expansive basement, just touring the house would be worth the admission price.  Read the rest of this article here.
