5GB With The Black Angels; Playing The Masquerade Tonight, Nov. 4

By Eileen Tilson / @tktalt_tn

“The Black Angels are the best band to come out of Austin in a very long time,” says my Nashville music snob friend. Ironically, as much as I hate to join in the hipster singalong, I must agree. By shunning the land of the skinny jeans, The Black Angels have risen to become one of the youngest, and most respected fuzz rock bands, touring with the likes of The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, Roky Erickson, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Queens of the Stone Age, The Raveonettes and Wolfmother. Lead singer Alex Maas joined us for our 5GB series before their show tonight at The Masquerade.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Willie Nelson

What is the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon (chicken wing handouts!)

What is the best gig you’ve ever played/performed at?

La Route du Rock Festival in France.

What gig would you most like to play? (festival or event or a location or a venue)

I would love to play Coachella, Glasontbury, and Live Aid, is that ok?

What would the line-up be at your dream gig? Who would you play with?

I’d do U@ if it’s between U2 and Coldplay, but wouldn’t turn down either! I mean come on, I’d be shooting myself  in the foot turning wither one down! What about a collaboration with Beck, Clinic, David Bowie, with Thom Yorke producing, is that an option??

  1. I must say for the record, ghe last question that was asked was who would you rather play with? U2 or Coldplay?
