AMG Weekend Picks: EARL 11th Anniversary, Ringo Starr, Sleigh Bells, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

It’s a weekend of celebrations that we have coming up for you. The EARL will be lighting 11 candles on the proverbial rock ‘n’ roll cake, Ringo Starr is probably still celebrating turning 70, Vinyl are heralding the arrival of the Next Big Thing with Sleigh Bells, and Rooney are on their first tour as an independent band fending for itself. So grab yourself a glass of champagne and find something to celebrate.

Thursday, July 8 – The EARL’s 11th Anniversary Kickoff at The EARL
The EARL revs up its 11th anniversary weekend tonight with a special “Live At The EARL” 7-inch release party for Gentleman Jesse & His Men. $5 gets you in and the 7-inch record.

Friday July 9 – Man or Astro-man? at The EARL
Continuing – and indeed, wrapping up with a second show on July 10 – the EARL’s anniversary will be Atlanta surf-rockers Man or Astro-man?, who reunited earlier this year to the thrill of many a vintage Atlanta music fan. It’s sure to be a crazy packed weekend so buy those tickets now!

Saturday July 10 – Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band at Chastain Park Amphitheatre
Having just celebrated his 70th birthday party with a star-studded show in New York (well, we heard Paul McCartney was there, which is star power enough), Ringo “Peace and Love” Starr is showing no signs of stopping, despite his well-publicized YouTube grump-down last year.

Saturday July 10 – Sleigh Bells at Vinyl, Rooney at The Loft
Those lo-fi, ultra-cool noise-rockers Sleigh Bells will be playing a packed and probably very sweaty sold-out show on Saturday, while the sweeter (and slightly quieter) Rooney play upstairs at The Loft.
Rooney tickets:

Saturday July 10 – Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros at Variety Playhouse
If The Beatles’ former drummer or very loud indie music isn’t for you, then you will probably be at the Edward Sharpe show, where there will be some delightful West Coast neo-psychedelia filling the house.
