What’s Up Monday 9/29

Happy Monday Atlanta! Here’s what’s going on this Monday in the Atlanta Concert Scene!

Songwriter’s Open Mic at Eddie’s Attic

Songwriter’s Open Mic is one of the longest running, and best open mic nights in America. Nearly every Monday night burgeoning artists are given the opportunity to perform two songs each, and the best acts are invited back for an encore performance, the chance to win cash prizes and to compete in the Bi-Annual Open Mic Shootout. Some big name artists have even gotten their start at Open Mic Night, including John Mayer, Jennifer Nettles (of Sugarland) and Shawn Mullins.

General admission tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Table seats are $6.25 each and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 5pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 7pm.

Luke James at Vinyl

He’s a singer/songwriter who truly embodies the honesty and fresh, organic soulfulness that’s been in relatively short supply of late in contemporary music. Now that sounds like a pretty tall order for a newcomer to fulfill. However, the New Orleans native is very much up to the task. In fact, you’ve no doubt heard his work: he co-wrote Chris Brown’s “Crawl” and has penned songs for Justin Bieber (“That Should Be Me”) and Britney Spears (“Kill The Lights”), among others. And his growing fan base includes none other than Beyoncé, who selected James to appear in her “Run the World” video. Inspired by those collaborations, he rediscovered his footing as a singer in his own right. “I found the feeling again where I felt something fresh could come out,” says James. “Writing songs helped me figure out what my lane was as far as being a solo artist. And I’ve also learned something else: If I don’t feel it, I can’t do it.”

Tickets are $20. Online, phone and outlet sales close at 6:00 pm. Doors open 7pm.
