What’s Up Tuesday? June 18th

billy buchananHello music lovers! There are some BIG things happening lately! If anyone attended the SOLD OUT show featuring The 1975 and The Neighbourhood at Center Stage last night, you must know how amazing it was! The Neighbourhood will be coming back for Music Midtown this September at Piedmont Park in Atlanta! Make sure to check out the full Music Midtown lineup! As far as tonight’s schedule goes, we have some great shows going on at our favorite bars and venues! Check it out below!

Billy Buchanan @ Eddie’s Attic

Billy Buchanan’s music is best described as street smart soul meets southern fried rock and roll. Imagine Cee Lo Green hanging out in Motown with The Allman Brothers. Soulful, passionate, musical, and fun! Unapologetically wearing his influences on his sleeve, Buchanan borrows from the best, all the while creating his own unique blend of soul, modern funk, and blues based rock. Carefully wrapped in clever grooves, contagious riffs, soaring melodies, skillfully crafted chord progressions, and thought provoking lyrics, Buchanan’s music is fresh yet pleasantly familiar. His forthcoming album, Fact Fiction & Other Contradictions, will be released July 2, 2013 on the Persevere Entertainment Group label.

Catch 23: Atlanta’s Favorite Comedy Death Match @ The EARL

Catch 23 is an improvised Comedy Deathmatch. Three teams of improvisers battle it out in four rounds. They each have 23 minutes to use over the course of the night – no more; no less – with nothing but a 1 minute warning to guide them. Each scene is judged on a ten point scale with five points given by the audience and five by a hell judge.

Grandchildren @ The Basement at Graveyard Tavern

Grandchildren began in 2008 as the solo recording project of Aleks Martray, forging intricately layered arrangements with only an acoustic guitar, a mic and a loop pedal. Since then, it has evolved into a six-piece pop-orchestra known for its high energy live performances featuring dueling drums, circuit-bending electronics and an instrument-swapping horn section. Their new album Golden Age was just released May 7, 2013.

Twin Shadow @ Terminal West

Confess is the gorgeous, dynamic follow-up to Twin Shadow’s 2010 breakthrough Forget. The songs on Confess do feel invigorated, as well as louder, more dynamic and certainly more adventurous. “Golden Light” kicks things off in a wash of keyboards and a slowly building beat, evoking a bit of Peter Gabriel. Elsewhere on Confess, Lewis revs up the guitars (“You Call Me On”), engages in some sparse, soulful R&B (“Patient”) and goes quiet for a few mournful ballads (“When the Movie’s Over,” “Run My Heart.”)
