What’s Up Wednesday 10/8

Priscilla Ahn at Eddie’s Attic

Singer-songwriter Priscilla Ahn embarked upon a career the old-fashioned way: she packed her belongings in a car—“two guitars, clothes, and some other junk I really didn’t need to bring”—and left her Pennsylvania home for L.A. That she found steady gigs, a supportive circle of fellow artists and a record deal in a relatively short period of time—give or take several months of bad waitressing jobs—will come as no surprise after a single listen to “Dream,” the lilting opening track of A Good Day, her full-length debut on Blue Note Records. Ahn artfully balances youthful whimsy and grown-up sophistication, playing guitar and singing in a warm, welcoming, and stunningly self-assured voice.

General admission tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Table seats are $18.75 each and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 5pm on the day of the show.  Doors open at 6:30pm.

Largely on the strength of his looping-enhanced and wonder-inspiring live show, Bernhoft racked up 250,000 sales of Solidarity Breaks and earned more than three million views for “C’Mon Talk” (a beatbox-infused, acoustic-guitar-laced single that Bernhoft performed during his September 2011 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show).

Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 on the day of the show. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 7pm.

Snowmine w/ Nightbox at The EARL

Snowmine are set to release their new album – Dialects – through their own imprint Mystery Buildings. Dialects, Snowmine’s second album in their three year history, was entirely written and produced on their own, and recorded by Jake Aron (Grizzly Bear), and Yale Yng Wong (Here We Go Magic) in a church in Uptown Manhattan. The album chronicles a disoriented period in singer Grayson Sanders’ life, when after the band’s first record, he spontaneously left his job, and spent the following year wandering with a single bag.

Tickets are $10. Online and phone sales end at 6 pm on the day of the event. Doors open at 8:30pm.
