5 GB With Other Lives; Playing With Radiohead Tonight At Phillips Arena

By Eileen Tilson

If you are an indie rock band, I don’t think there is anything that reminds you more that you might have reached Mecca than to be asked to open for Radiohead’s first U.S. tour in four years. For the boys in Other Lives, this is their reality. Having to be randomly playing a show in Radiohead’s hometown of Oxford, England, Other Lives had some folks in the crowd that would change their musical lives. ” After the show, Thom Yorke, Colin Greenwood, and Ed O’ Brian, came up to us and told us how much they enjoyed the show, and asked us if we wanted to be the opening act for their U.S. tour…..it was pretty amazing.” I’m not sure whether amazing is the right word here,  I would say ridiculously awesome…..We chatted with Other Lives before their show tonight with Radiohead.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

This feels pretty lame to say now, but I went and saw the Wallflowers in 6th grade….I barely remember that show, but I do remember going to see SweetWater in the 7th grade.

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed at?

Well the most memorable for me was probably last year playing at SXSW, when we played our second album, Tamer Animals, which had just come out. It was cool cause there was just this great mix of people there between our manager, friends, labels, etc. It just went over so well, and everything came together….THough of course if you ask me that question by the end of this tour, my answer might be different!

What is the best gig you have ever been to?

I drove ten hours to see Radiohead in St. Louis during the Hail to the Thief tour…I’m always willing to go out of my way for a band I admire.

Gig you would most like to play?

Ha, well I know I keep coming back to Radiohead, but getting to open of them is kind of a dream come true…For us, this is incredible.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

I would say us, then our friends in Color Music (we have a studio with them in Stillwater). We would play in tour studio together, and Bill Murray would be in the audience….then he would get up on stage and do a little freeform.
