AMG Weekend Picks: Jason Isbell, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Jeff Daniels, Judi Chicago and More!

Boo! Hope I didn’t scare you – but it’s already that time again. That’s right – despite the balmy weather outside, it’s Halloween! We have our own spooky recommendations over HERE, but here’s a round-up for the whole weekend, scary or not.

Thursday, October 28 – Paste Magazine Tour at The EARL

Paste brings an incredible lineup to the EARL tonight, with Jason Isbell, Langhorne Slim, Jesse Sykes and Phil Wandscher and Mimicking Birds.

Friday, October 29 – Dropsonic at The Star Bar

Local lads will be celebrating their album release Friday night with support from The Letters Organize and A: The Color. It’s a Team Luis show, so you know it’ll be good.

Tickets at the Door

Friday, October 29 – Me First and the Gimme Gimmes at The Loft

If you love punk rock, and love classic covers, then see these two things meld when punk super-group Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do their take on everything from “Sloop John B” to “My Favorite Things.”

Friday, October 29 – Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation at The Fox Theatre

If you need a slightly more mellow start to your Halloween weekend, then check out legendary trip-hoppers Massive Attack and groovy world-electro DJs Thievery Corporation, with support from Corrine Bailey Rae.

Saturday, October 30 – Jeff Daniels at Smith’s Olde Bar

Not only is Jeff Daniels an incredible actor, theater activist, playwright and all-round swell guy, he’s also a darn impressive singer-songwriter. Stick around to catch neo-folk rockers Dawes for a late show.

Saturday, October 30 – From Dusk Til Dawn at The Gold Room

For your classic skimpy Halloween outfits and spooky-themed drink deals, we defer to The Gold Room’s From Dusk Til Dawn party, which is giving prizes out for Sexiest Female Vampire and Best “True Blood” Lookalike. And for you “True Blood” fans – there will also be a drink “based” on the show.

Saturday, October 30 – Weezer at Chastain Park Amphitheatre

Sure, there’s still a fair bit of debate over the actual cool-status of Weezer, but we can all agree there are some pretty awesome tunes in their catalog.

Sunday, October 31 – Judi Chicago at Whirlyball Atlanta

Our favorite disco punks are sure to be big Halloween favorites, especially when they are joined by Mathis Hunter and Gentleman Jesse and His Men for a kick-ass lineup.

Sunday, October 31 – Jonsi at The Tabernacle

Sigur Ros’ Jonsi is soaring in his solo career, and we bet that this show will be nothing short of incredible.
