At just fifteen years old The EARL has already had a colorful history. In 1999, long-time Atlanta resident John Searson decided to turn a building used to store mattresses into the newest bar and lounge in East Atlanta. Since its inception, The EARL has seen numerous locally and nationally acclaimed artists including Death Cab for Cutie, Beirut, and Cat Power to name a few.
Searson transformed the space from mattress storage to rock club almost completely on his own, using licensed contractors only when absolutely necessary. The interior still reflects his bare- knuckles approach to building the business. In fact, the bar was built from a tree that had fallen on the property while the bar was still in construction.
The 300-person venue is not only one of Paste Magazine’s 40 Best Music Venues, or Creative Loafing’s Best Place to Hear Live Music/Rock Club, but it is also home of one of the Wall Street Journal’s Best Burgers in America! It is the perfect place to find great food, great music and a great time!
