What’s Up Thursday 7/31

The Rosebuds

There are plenty of super fun shows to attend tonight, so be sure to get out there and enjoy some good music! Let us know what you get up to and if you discover any awesome artists/bands!

The Rosebuds w/ special guests @ The EARL

After spending two years living on opposite coasts and pursuing their own creative projects, Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp came back together last spring to set to work on the sixth full-length album from the Rosebuds. Joining up with Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon (a friend and former bandmate who, in a 2011 interview, noted that the Rosebuds make “some of the most important music in the world”), the North Carolina-bred duo spent a week in Vernon’s studio teasing out a batch of songs that effortlessly weave the hooky songcraft of classic jangle-pop, the cagey romanticism of new wave, and a refined yet full-hearted sensibility all their own.

Tickets are $14. Doors open at 8:30pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.

OK Productions Presents: Ivy & The Wicker Suitcase @ Eddie’s Attic

Can a 10 year old girl outdo the Lord of the Underworld and cajole a Supreme Deity into changing destiny? Can Flowers sing background vocals? Is it normal to take a nap when you’re falling down a cave-hole? How does gravity work in the center of the earth? No need to guess… The answers to all of these questions and more are hidden in the pages and stuck in the tracks of Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase, an epic surreal ear movie music, a low-tech extravaganza whose story is told with tunes, dialogue and sound effects, accompanied by a 64 page fully illustrated book, not unlike the old Disney gatefold Buena Vista album.

It’s free to attend. Doors open at 12:30pm. Online and phone sales close at 11am.

Mandatory Auditory w/ Teedra Moses @ Vinyl

Teedra Moses was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana to a gospel singer mother, Shirley Moses. Prior to becoming a recording artist, Moses worked with her best friend Nonja McKenzie as an assistant wardrobe stylist for artists such as Will Smith, Kelis, R. Kelly, and No Doubt. It was after breaking her leg on a video set that Moses decided to follow her heart and begin making music. Following this epiphany, Moses teamed up with producer, Paul Poli and signed with the then Number 1 Indie Record Label, TVT Records to release her debut album Complex Simplicity in August 2004.

Oathbreaker (deathwish) & Cult Leader w/ Dropout @ 529

“Eros|Anteros” is the breathtaking follow up to Oathbreaker’s critically acclaimed “Maelstrom” album (Deathwish 2011). Where “Maelstrom” acted as individual fragments of aural shrapnel, “Eros|Anteros” is a monstrous shockwave of sound. It is Oathbreaker’s story of love and the anti-love (life and death), and the growth they have experienced through these trials.

Tickets are $8. Doors open at 9pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.
