5 GB With Lera Lynn & Seven Handle Circus: Playing An AMG Presents At Buckhead Theater

Come one, come all! Atlanta Music Guide and Bowe Inc. present Seven Handle Circus and Lera Lynn tonight at The Buckhead Theater! The bands chatted with us as part of our 5 GB series before their show.

What is the the first gig you ever went to?

SHC:  My Sister’s 4- year old violin recital.  It was awful (don’t tell her that).

LL: The first show I ever attended was at some fairground I think. I must have been 5 years old. My parents took me to see Atlanta Rhythm Section. They’re still one of my favorites! Oh such fond memories…

Best gig you have ever played/performed at?

SHC: I think we can all agree that our favorite gig so far with this band was playing with Mumford and Sons at the Fox Theater. They stumble in to one of our gigs and asked us to play. Afterwards, we had a big jam session with them all around the Fox it’s a special show too.

LL: That is hard to answer. Humm… The good ones are good for different reasons, same with the bad. It’s, you know, apples and oranges.

Best gig you’ve ever been to?

SHC:  The best gig I ever attended was Radiohead at Stone Mountain in 2001, around the time Kid A and Amnesiac came out. They set up stage in a big, somewhat muddy meadow away from the mountain. The space was surprising intimate and it was amazing to see a band at the peak of their artistry, both aurally and visually. We danced the entire night. Everything felt classic from the music being played to the t-shirts they were selling–one of which still sits unworn in my dresser.

LL: I saw Gillian Welch and David Rawlings last week at the new Georgia Theater in Athens. I’ve never cried so much in my life. They are truly awe inspiring, impeccable performers. Next in line I’d have to say was Elbow at Center Stage a year or so ago. I cried then too and I don’t cry easily!

What is the gig you would most like to play?

SHC: Any gig where the crowd capacity is 50,000+ and it’s perfectly normal for people to get half naked and roll around in the mud for days at a time.

LL:  I could go on about this for a while. I definitely want to play the Telluride Festival… so beautiful! I’m dying to play in the Tennessee underground amphitheater at Cumberland Caverns on the show Bluegrass Underground. I wouldn’t consider my style to be bluegrass so much but hopefully they’ll make an exception… What a neat venue! Of course I’d love to play the Grammys but you know… that might be a hot minute away.

If you could put your dream lineup on a gig, who would it be?

SHC: Although we are a bluegrass band, we often combine our songs with famous rap songs when we play live.  I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to have Big Boi or 3 Stacks come out and rap with us.

LL: I would love to do a duet with A.A. Bondy. He pretty much hung the moon for me… <3 It also wouldn’t hurt my feelings to play with Paul McCartney. Again, this list could go on and on…
