True Colors Theatre Company Needs Your Help!

Atlanta’s own famous True Colors Theatre company, led by Tony-nominated director Kenny Leon, needs some assistance. Here’s a message the theater company is sending out:

True Colors has 9 days left!

If we can raise $50,000 from our patrons by June 30th, our board has committed to raise $100,000 to end our season DEBT FREE!

Please consider making a donation today if you have enjoyed our exceptional theatre in the past, so that True Colors can continue to bring Kenny Leon’s vision to Atlanta.

No amount is too small (or too big).

To make your donation, please contact True Colors at 404.588.0308 or Online HERE.

So far, the non-profit company has raised about $15,000, leaving about $35,000 to go. Our parent company, Ticket Alternative, who sells tickets for the theater’s plays, is waiving all fees that True Colors usually accrues, in order for every penny to help.

True Colors is a great local theater company that consistently puts out amazing plays with world-class talent. We hope you’ll help them out and aid in continuing a great Atlanta institution.

By Nick LeMay; photo by Ninh T. Chau

At an invitation only event, Cirque du Soleil previewed their insect-themed production dubbed OVO last Wednesday, November 3rd. The performance was held under The Grand Chapiteau, a series of elaborate tents near Atlantic Station where these artistic gymnasts would cultivate a level of discipline over the body in the most impressive and creative way I could have imagined. … Continue Reading

September 16, 2010 Giveaways, Theater No Comments

We are very excited to have a pair of tickets for the amazing Gut Bucket Blues, the story of The Legendary Bessie Smith. Written and directed by David H. From her start on the touring circuit to her success as a recording artist, Bessie refused to buckle under personal or social indignities. Find out Bessie was big as her blues, an extraordinary woman with a vivid rage to live. From the writer who brought us Hot Mikado.

Win Tickets to See “Pageant: The Musical” at 14th Street Playhouse This Weekend!

September 15, 2010 Giveaways, Theater No Comments

Many of us like to giggle at pageantry – of any kind. And for some, there’s a special place in their hearts for beauty pageants, where women will do just about anything to be crowned the Miss Whatever. So it’s nice to know there are like-minded folks out there who like to do a little tongue-in-cheek satire on the world of the pageant.

Pageant: The Musical has arrived in Atlanta and will be playing at the 14th Street Playhouse through October 24. The spoof romps through the competition for Miss Glamouresse with six ladies ranging from Miss Bible Belt to Miss Industrial Northeast, all with their own pretty hilarious characteristics. Oh and if this wasn’t filled with enough satire, the contestants are all played by men.

So if you fancy a giggle this weekend, then enter our competition to win a pair of tickets to see the play on Saturday, September 18 at 8 p.m. Just fill out the form below. And if you want to buy tickets, we have a code (360media) that will get you 20 percent off when you buy ticket here.

Jeff Daniels (Yes, That Jeff Daniels) Comes to Smith’s Olde Bar, October 30

May 7, 2010 Gigs, Theater, Videos No Comments

Smith’s Olde Bar will be welcoming Jeff Daniels (as in Purple Rose of Cairo, Dumb and Dumber) to their stage for a show on October 30. Daniels has been writing songs for much of his life, with two records to his name, the proceeds of which go to fund his non-profit Purple Rose Theatre Company in Daniels’ hometown of Chelsea, Mich. And his old-school folky songs aren’t too bad either – we predict this show will be packed with folks liking his traditional take on the songwriter. Tickets go on sale next Friday, May 14.
